Workforce Development

PROJECT DETAILS: In the spring of 2015, Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph will launch an enhanced Workforce Development initiative. This initiative will focus on providing services related to job placement, training, resume reviews to our clients and the community at large. Volunteers will play a large part in the success of this program and will work closely with staff to continually improve services. PURPOSE/GOAL: To assist clients with job search engines, basic application processes, reviewing of resumes and providing basic technical support. The key to this volunteer position lies within teaching the client to perform these tasks through encouragement and positive reinforcement. DUTIES: • Assist walk-ins and clients with applying and searching for jobs • Give positive support to job seekers • Review resumes for grammatical errors and content • Familiarize yourself with outside resources to improve the job seeker’s employment potential • Familiarize yourself with job boards to improve search capability • Provide basic technical assistance to job seekers QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to effectively utilize search engines and job search engines • Basic computer knowledge • Willingness to help clients find job placement • Patience and understanding of client challenges COMMITMENT: • One four hour block, once per week (morning or afternoon)
