Camp Journey / Teen Overnights provides a highly anticipated and meaningful experience for teens with autism to enjoy a structured, supportive overnight camp. With 50–75 campers per session and a consistent waitlist, this program offers social connection, recreation, and independence-building in a safe, sensory-friendly environment.

Volunteers play an essential role in making these weekends possible. Whether assisting with group activities or offering individualized support, you’ll help create a fun and inclusive experience that campers look forward to all year.

Volunteer Roles & Tasks May Include:
• Assisting campers with check-in and orientation
• Providing one-on-one or small group support during activities
• Participating in recreational activities (e.g., games, crafts, nature walks)
• Supporting evening events (e.g., talent shows, movie nights, campfires)
• Helping with mealtimes (guiding campers through the line, setting up tables, cleanup)

• Collaborating with Spectrum staff and other volunteers to ensure camper safety and engagement
• Encouraging social interaction and positive behavior in a patient, respectful manner
• Assisting with packing up, camper departure, and site cleanup at the end of the session

Ideal Volunteer Qualities:
• Compassionate, reliable, and calm under pressure
• Willingness to be hands-on and flexible in a dynamic environment
• Comfortable interacting with teens with varying communication and support needs
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
